Who We AreThe Wandering Works Design Co. is a tightly knit collective of designers, copywriters, developers, policy planners, photographers, and Big Idea people. We pride ourselves on being accomplished, established & big enough to handle large web development projects & branding campaigns with finesse and heart, but small enough as to nurture strong, knowing relationships with each client. We specialize in serving forward-thinking organizations who believe originality & substance to be of first priority. We specialize in making sure the better stories get told, and well-told, at that.

Before hanging out a bespoke little shingle for Wandering Works, Mr Schick focused on policy and strategy, and business and non-profit development for organizations throughout North America and Eastern Europe. Before that, and you're looking at an adolescence illustrating advertisements and maps, peddling charcoal portraits of sports greats and love interests on the playground, and generally puzzling over how best and most powerfully one might wed design and ideology.

Design and Strategy

Those experiences and aspirations come together in a design practice wholly devoted to finding and representing what is most human in an idea (or business, or body of work), what will reward an audience's imagination and yearning, what will inspire a warmth akin to friendship. Whether the path cuts through letterpress printing or woodburning, skills newly acquired or those practiced since youth, it's that yearning which has always been the True North to which the practice has been oriented.

Mr Van Zoeren is the agency's prodigiously talented co-developer, adviser, drummer, and sage-of-few-words, regularly solving for absurdly / delightfully complex problems with intimidating efficiency and dispatch. He specializes in crafting adaptable, extensible Content Management Systems custom-built for non-profits, small businesses, and ambitious organizations.

Logic and Systems

With a keen and noteworthy appreciation for Expression Engine, an ease with WordPress customizations, an intimacy with Ruby, Rails, and all manner of databases, and a terrific grasp and facility with programmatic logic, Mr Van Zoeren and his creative command of code allow our small, well-directed studio to take on projects of any size or challenge, giving small businesses and organizations complex back-end systems at affordable rates, and larger organizations a quality of design typically precluded by specializing developers.
